About
grit strength fitness

Grit Strength started out like many other personal trainers; working with adults to lose weight, get stronger and live a healthier lifestyle. We created nutrition plans and worked one on one with the clients. There was one phrase we kept hearing; "I wish I started this years ago!" After deep thought, a transition took place. A transition that helped many kids do just that, start early! We've worked with youth to learn safe and structured exercises. Taught them proper form, exercise terminology, nutritional needs, and helped make them the best they can be! We have many testimonials from parents that we deeply value and is what keeps us moving!

My son really enjoys this class. I have a 13-year-old son with autism. He is not into any sports, and it can be challenging for me to get him outside because he prefers to stay inside on his electronics.

I was very excited that our pediatrician recommended Travis’s class. I loved that there was no commitment. We are a busy family and he spends every other weekend with his dad, so I couldn’t have done something with a commitment for every Saturday. I loved it because it was affordable.

I am a single mother so joining a gym was not an option for us. I loved that Travis and Casey were very encouraging for every child, especially for those who are not athletic like my son. I loved that they disguised the exercises as challenges 😊 It was a series of activities that would allow them to do the work but not get bored. I liked that they encouraged the kids to work as a group with tasks like healthy trivia questions.

It’s a very valuable asset to our community and I would highly recommend it.

My granddaughter and sons (ages 8, 11, and 12) have been in Travis’s fitness class for over a year. During this time, they have developed a new interest in maintaining their health through physical exercise. He has offered a variety of activities to make learning fun. He has also encouraged all three of them in their extracurricular activities outside of his class, such as gymnastics and football. He is an excellent supporter of health knowledge as he includes a short quiz in some sessions and the kids enjoy it! I would recommend Travis’s services to anyone who has children that need some motivation to practice better health habits, as well as children that are already active but want to learn more about how to stay fit.
His class has been great for us!

My child started attending a youth fitness class with Mr. Stewart in June of 2025. It was one of the best decisions we could have made as parents. Our child enjoyed it so much he asked if he could also start 1-1 training also after just a few months.  The instructor creates a positive encouraging environment with age-appropriate activities to help build strength coordination and confidence all while making sure the kids have fun. As a parent I appreciate how the class promotes building confidence and teaching the right way how to start training as a youth. I would highly recommend Mr. Stewart and his dedication to youth fitness which is truly needed in the Lake Cumberland area to any parent looking to get there child into a positive fitness regimen.

TESTIMONIALS

I'm writing in regard to Mr. Travis Stewart and his youth fitness program. My son has been attending Travis's youth fitness class for approximately the past year. During that time, I've seen a notable improvement in his physical conditioning and overall well-being.

We are living in an increasingly digital world which has led to increasingly sedentary lifestyles. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the rate of childhood obesity has risen approximately 50% over the last two decades and approximately 40% of American adults were considered obese as of August 2021.

Physical fitness is the foundation of a higher quality of life and it is paramount that our children understand the importance of physical fitness and have access to programs such as those offered by Mr. Stewart. Travis is a certified fitness professional but more importantly, he clearly has a passion for what he does and for the well-being of our children.

As a parent, I am grateful that our community has a leader such as Mr. Stewart who is willing to offer his time and expertise for the good of our local youth.

My son has always wanted to go to the gym and most gyms didn’t allow it. He started weight lifting in middle school football and really enjoyed it . I saw an advertisement for Travis one of my friends shared . I contacted him and he trained Sam twice a week between seasons. He really showed Sam how to train safely and worked to achieve goals that my son set. Highly recommend to anyone with a young athlete or anyone wanting their children to get physically fit.

I am writing this letter to formally recognize and express my deepest gratitude for the exceptional impact that Travis Stewart has had on the lives, health, and overall well-being of my 12-year-old son and 13-year-old daughter. Through his dedicated fitness guidance and mentorship, Travis has helped my children navigate critical health and social challenges at a pivotal stage in their development.

Both of my children have struggled with health issues and obesity, which heavily impacted their physical well-being and confidence. Under Travis’s knowledgeable supervision, they have safely begun losing weight and are successfully getting their physical health back under control. Travis tailored an environment where they felt secure yet challenged, transforming what could have been an intimidating process into a rewarding journey. Because of his engaging approach, both of my children genuinely look forward to attending his fitness classes every week.

Beyond the remarkable physical progress, the transformation in their mental and emotional resilience has been profound. Travis has played an instrumental role in building their self-esteem and confidence. This has been especially life-changing for my 13-year-old daughter, who has historically struggled with socialization, isolation, and anxiety. Through the structured activities and supportive atmosphere Travis cultivates, they have learned to Communicate more effectively with others, developed essential teamwork skills, and significantly increased my daughters out-of-home socialization. Seeing her step out of her comfort zone and integrate into a group setting has been incredibly reassuring as a parent.

Travis Stewart is far more than a fitness instructor; he is an impactful mentor who understands how to connect with youth, accommodate their health challenges, and foster comprehensive personal growth. I highly recommend him and as a parent of children who have struggled I am hopeful that he can find a new gym home for his program and continue his work with my children as well as many others.

But Grit Strength, what will my child do in the classes?

Great question! For 1 hour, we will start with a light warmup, moving our bodies and stretching to better prepare us for the exercises. After that, we will do many circuit style exercise stations including but not limited to: lifting weights, body weight exercises, cardio movements, teamwork exercises, jogging, squatting, mobility, coordination, and a fun teamwork fitness related game or two. We end the hour with stretch exercises to improve mobility and bloodflow to cool down.

Who Can Join the Classes?

Any child ages 8-14 years old can attend the classes! Your child does NOT have to be an athlete. Many of the kids we work with just want to be more active and get in better shape. We have young athletes and we have kids that don't particularly enjoy playing sports. Some kids like to come because it's fun and they meet new friends.

This class is not a bodybuilding class.  Our objective is to make the class enjoyable and motivating. We want to help your child become a better version of themselves! We build them up and encourage everyone to root for each other!
